John Fitzgerald – Musician & Engineer

Starting at an early age of 15 playing trumpet and drums in Clonakilty’s St Patricks Band. From there he became the resident drummer in Shanleys Piano bar in Clonakilty and played with many great musicians who frequented the bar.

As time passed he played bass and keyboards in the group of the late Noel Redding (formerly Jimi Hendrix Experience) who lived and played regularly in DeBarras and Shanleys. In parallel he started his own recording studio in Clonakilty whilst doing sound/lighting design, installation and operation.

John played keyboards with the Boogie Band, Cork, entertaining at corporate events and weddings in the Munster area. As guitarist with Bog the Donkey he travelled throughout Ireland, Europe and the US. He recorded with numerous groups (see discography below) and composed and recorded the soundtrack of the Dutch cartoon series ‘Boos’.

In parallel John acted as the Musical director and designer with the Manning Brothers Christmas Show, and did their stage sound and lighting design. He currently works with Roy Harper as his touring engineer and as his studio engineer he is currently remastering his past albums. John does song pre/production for artists like Don Mescall, Shay Healy, Brian McFadden,LeAnn Rimes, Randy Goodman, Craig Wiseman, Ricky Ross, Scott English, Jimmy McCarthy.

John is a consultant for Pro Hire & Installation, Soundtrax Sound & Lighting Cork and is busy regarding the system design and operation of De Barras Folk Club Clonakilty. John has excellent working knowledge of all major platforms (Logic, Protools, Cubase, etc.) and internet applications. His training achievements include Rational Acoustics- Smaart V6 Training, Apple Certified Pro Logic 8, Dublin, Meyer Sound (Fundamentals of System Design, Implementation and Optimization Seminar), Avolites London (Lighting Design & Programming) and Crosby Communication System (Use of Crosby Products – Slings/Shackles).
